Two months and ten days after Jacques Villeneuve’s first contact with the Škoda Fabia on ice, the Canadian joined a very select club of drivers who have won in their first season - Yvan Muller and Alain Prost. Commenting on Villeneuve’s performance, Prost said: “What Jacques has just done is really exceptional. I did everything I could to pass him in the final but without success. I think it’s a stunning achievement!

If the Professor is impressed, then needless to say I'm also impressed!

Who will be the fastest on the ice? The final, non-championship event of the Trophy Andros ice racing series will feature a thrilling battle between Jacques Villeneuve and motorcycle champion Regis Laconi.

The thousands of spectators gathered at the Stade de France Saturday, March 5 will have the chance to witness a highly exciting confrontation.

The 1997 F1 world champion, an winner of the 1995 Indianapolis 500, Jacques Villeneuve will drive his Skoda Fabia against the KTM bike of Regis Laconi, European champion and runner-up in the SuperBike championship.

The challenge will take place on the frozen oval of the Stade de France near Paris.

"I love this kind of challenge," revealed Villeneuve.

"Even if my Skoda weighs 950 kg, it has a 340 horsepower engine and four-wheel drive. I have no doubt in the result. I am plenty confident!”

Laconi, the last French rider to have won a motorcycle Grand Prix said "My bike is unbeatable! My KTM weighs only 115 kg and with the 274 nails of my Continental tires, there will be no contest! "

The Pilot Challenge will see the Skoda and the KTM compete in two runs of three laps, taking the start on opposite sides of the oval. The winner will be the one who wins two rounds. In case of tie, a deciding third round will be staged.

I am taking a chance... Is that the first time that the bikes and the cars are racing on this track? Lap times would not lie...

Sadly, I bet 2$ on the bike. Some years ago, I have spoken to some riders as Pascal Picotte, they told me that, when the conditions are good, they have more grip than their superbike on the asphalt, as well as for the lean angle...

It depends a bit on the driver and the power/torque values of the bike... But if these aspects are fair, I think the start will be better for the bike and it will have a more rounder curb to take (the bike is narrower), so the bike will keep a higher speed in the curb...

That's my guess... I am anxious to see that on video... It will be fun to watch...

Jacques is a busy guy in France. Now he's driving Skoda electric as well as the bike race and the normal race.

I really do appreciate abf1's work and passion. It comes through even with my less than perfect French. I am so glad I found this site and can share it with people as crazy as I am.

My French is gradually improving because I am reading it every day here. If JV gets a regular gig, who knows how good my French will get.

If this lounge/forum only helps improving your french, this will be a huge victory. I am sometimes telling my wife I actually learned a bunch of stuff and made friends with a few people around this crazy place for the last 10 or so years, and everytime she tells me I'm being silly, 'cuz a lot of people think we're just wasting our time on forums.

Well over the years I made friends, met with a handful of people, made professional connections and got some inside advice from some people, and last in line it seems like I found my newly graduated son a job for a few months minimum. Gotta like that. And don't give it up.

The 23rd edition of the Andros Trophy ice racing series will begin this weekend in Val Thorens, France. Here is the official entry list which includes the name of Jacques Villeneuve, the 1995 Indy 500 winner and 1997 Formula 1 World Champion.

Villeneuve will be driving the Oreca-prepared No. 3 Skoda Fabia alongside another former F1 driver, Franck Lagorce.

Villeneuve won a race last year in his rookie season of ice racing.

Benjamin Rivière (Skoda Fabia) took victory ahead of the favorites for the championship in the first day of the 2011/2012 Trophée Andros in Val Thorens.

Rivière, who drives a year-old-spec Skoda Fabia, dominated qualifyings ahead of Pierre Llorach (Renault Clio) and Evens Stievenart (Dacia Lodgy). Meanwhile, the stars of the championship struggled in the session with reigning champion Jean-Philippe Dayraut (Mini Countryman) only 8th, Alain Prost (Dacia Lodgy) 10th, while Jacques Villeneuve (Skoda Fabia) suffered mechanical issues in the second qualifying heat, which put him down to 15th overall in qualifying.

Although he was dominated by both Evens Stievenart and Jean-Philippe Dayraut in the second final round, Benjamin Rivière remained in front of overall classification of the day to take a surprise win in the first race of the season.

The other finale was won by Evens Stievenart while Villeneuve, who had to start from the back of the grid after his troubles in qualifying, took 7th place, and 14th in the overall classification of the day.
