Villeneuve: There’s A Lot To Learn
http://www.v8supercars.com.au/championship/newsarticle/villeneuve-theres-a-lot-to-learn/tabid/70/newsid/12630/default.aspx
FORMER Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve has now had his first taste of the Sucrogen Townsville 400 street track and the #51 Pepsi Max Commodore and spent four practice sessions re-aquatinting himself today with the art of changing gears with his left hand.
The Canadian star did come to grief and crashed at turn 3 in Practice 3 to bring an end to that session, but labeled today as tough.
“It was a tough day, but there is a lot to learn; the track, the cars, using my left hand to shift, working on the seat, plus a lot going on today,” he said.
“The Pepsi Max Crew are all working really hard. Right now is the hard bit, hopefully we will get better throughout the weekend.
“But racing here this weekend, coming here this weekend, is mainly to learn how things work out here.
“The Townsville track is quite fun, it’s quite busy, you are doing something all the time.
“It’s a tough track to get used to the car because there is no margin for error.
“That makes the first day of driving the car quite difficult but it’s fun and I’m having a blast out there.”
Villeneuve will return to the circuit tomorrow for qualifying, which kicks off at 10.30am.

"That was unfortunate. All of the Pepsi Max Crew, we knew the race pace
would be better than qualifying. But it was actually a lot better in the
race because I could keep up and catch the guys in front of me and I
was just driving easy"

Thanks guys! Did you record the race by yourself stefdy?
I've seen my first v8 race today. It was a lot of fun to watch
I'd love to see JV do more races in this series. Let's hope he has more luck tomorrow!

The Aussies are a lot more "sympathique" or respectful towards JV than the americans.
When JV says that he likes the way the Aussies are "straight talking", I get the impression that Nascar has not been straight with JV.

Re: JV in V8 Supercar
Villeneuve could return to V8s for Queensland Raceway
http://www.speedcafe.com/2012/07/09/villeneuve-could-return-to-v8s-for-queensland-raceway/
""
“There’s definitely a chance that he could do more races with us,” Kelly told Speedcafe.com.
“Initially, it was about us getting him over here just for Townsville, and to be honest, he did a really good job. You can never expect anyone outside of the category to jump in and be right on the money straight away. Everytime he jumped in the car, he made a really good improvement. He was a pleasure to have in the Pepsi Max Crew in every aspect of his driving and all the jobs outside of the car.
“It would be a pleasure for him to return for more races. We wanted to get this out of the way and that if we can keep him for longer, he will only be stronger next time.”
Kelly says that having Villeneuve return for another meeting in less than a month would be ideal for his and the team’s progress.
“We need consistency in that car, but we haven’t squared anything away,” Kelly said.
“We want to see how Jacques feels about the weekend. If there is a possibility, we’ll discuss it after we can absorb how he has felt and if it’s the best option for him and us.”
Villeneuve leaves Australia today, and when asked about returning for upcoming races, he was non-committal. However, he says that dialogue will start in the coming days about the chances of returning.
“I’d definitely like to come back, but I have to see,” Villeneuve told Speedcafe.com.
“We only ever agreed to come for this race and said that we’d speak after this race.
“It would have been really good to have a test beforehand. I was learning on the fly here, so of course, it would be great to comeback, but I have to look at my schedule and everything like that.”
